Ces usines fournissent un endroit o\u00f9 les videurs de fosse peuvent d\u00e9verser les d\u00e9chets afin qu&#039;ils puissent \u00eatre trait\u00e9s pour \u00eatre exempts d&#039;agents pathog\u00e8nes - une solution essentielle pour le traitement dans les zones rurales o\u00f9 les syst\u00e8mes d&#039;\u00e9gouts n&#039;existent pas et ne sont m\u00eame pas pratiques. Dans les usines DEFAST, une fois les d\u00e9chets trait\u00e9s et exempts d&#039;agents pathog\u00e8nes, ils sont transform\u00e9s soit en briquettes pour le combustible et la cuisine, soit en engrais \u00e0 utiliser par les familles et les fermes locales. Dans les deux cas, les produits finaux sont moins chers que des alternatives comme le charbon de bois et sont beaucoup plus efficaces et meilleurs pour l&#039;environnement. Les briquettes br\u00fblent jusqu&#039;\u00e0 quatre fois plus longtemps que le charbon de bois ordinaire, ce qui permet aux familles d&#039;\u00e9conomiser du combustible et de r\u00e9duire les dommages \u00e0 l&#039;environnement, car elles n&#039;ont pas \u00e0 abattre des arbres pour se procurer du combustible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&quot;Dans la ville de Lira, 97% de personnes ne sont pas raccord\u00e9es \u00e0 l&#039;\u00e9gout local&quot;, explique Bosco Odyek, pr\u00e9sident de l&#039;organisation exploitant les usines DEFAST, soulignant le grand besoin de services d&#039;usine et de vidange des fosses. Mais un obstacle que Bosco a d\u00fb surmonter est la stigmatisation du travail dans l&#039;assainissement \u2013 c&#039;est un travail dur et sale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&quot;Lorsque j&#039;ai commenc\u00e9, 17 personnes \u00e9taient invit\u00e9es \u00e0 la formation&quot;, explique Bosco. &quot;Seuls 11 ont manifest\u00e9 leur int\u00e9r\u00eat, et actuellement seuls sept effectuent la vidange des fosses. Deux ne sont pas revenus parce que leurs parents ont dit que ce n&#039;\u00e9tait pas le genre de travail qu&#039;ils devraient faire.&quot; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bosco, cependant, affirme que la cha\u00eene de valeur de l&#039;assainissement pr\u00e9sente des opportunit\u00e9s d&#039;emploi pr\u00e9cieuses et potentiellement lucratives. Actuellement, le manque d&#039;usine de traitement signifie que la vidange des fosses \u00e0 Gicumbi n&#039;est pas abordable, car les entreprises de vidange des fosses doivent parcourir 100 kilom\u00e8tres depuis Kigali, puis transporter les d\u00e9chets vers la ville.
